The Dumas Savages, 12U Fastpitch Softball team, won the 2021 National Championship on Sunday at the USSSA National Tournament in Lenexa, Kansas. The Savages finished the tournament undefeated (9-0) after defeating the North Platte Jr Belles 6-1 and earning the top spot.
The Texas Department of Transportation says work will begin Tuesday on a rehabilitation project for US Highway 87/287 through downtown Dumas. The $36.8 million project will be split into three phases and the work will continue through May of 2024.
Beyond the Call of Duty End of Watch is a group from Washington that travels across the country each year honoring law enforcement officers that died during the previous year. The group stopped at McDade Park in Dumas on Thursday to honor the late Dumas Police Chief Marvin Trejo.
President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law on Thursday. The bill passed the U.S. Senate on June 15th by Unanimous Consent and passed the U.S. House on the 16th with overwhelming bipartisan support. Fourteen House members voted against the bill including Rep. Ronny Jackson (TX-13).
The UIL Legislative Council meeting was held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin this week. The council approved a proposal on Tuesday to allow Friday night high school football games to be streamed live on the internet.
