Dumas ISD continues its program recognizing the Teacher of the Month at the Elementary and Secondary levels. Selected teachers receive a certificate, a Dumas Demon backpack, a Starbucks gift card, and a $50.00 gift courtesy of Janet Walker, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway.

The Secondary Teacher of the Month for January is Delores Arenas, Special Ed teacher at Dumas High School.

Dumas High School Principal, Carl Clements, provided these words on behalf of Mrs. Arenas:

“Mrs. Arenas is one of Dumas High School’s primary assets for student engagement and general morale. It is difficult to put into words how valuable she is to our campus. Delores has a great relationship with all of her many students, which she leverages towards making authentic and lasting change in students’ lives. Equally important to DHS is her relationship with her peers. Through genuine, good-natured conversations, Delores has a vested interest in the lives of her peers which helps keep positivity ever present.

The Elementary Teacher of the Month for January is Ashton Hunt, PE teacher at Cactus.

Cactus Principal, TJ Funderburg, provided these words on behalf of Coach Hunt:

“Coach Hunt brings positive energy into his classroom and the school building. He works to instill a love for exercise in all students and models a healthy attitude and lifestyle. He has literally run hundreds of miles with the student in our Run Club! He gives his time freely to students and has high expectations for all the students that step into his gym. Coach Hunt keeps the activities fun and engaging all while pushing kids to challenge themselves.
