Two Dumas Children, Two Adults Die in Hartley County Crash

HARTLEY, TX – Two Dumas children and two adults were killed in a 2 vehicle accident approximately 7 miles east of Hartley Friday evening around 6:10 p.m. according to the Texas DPS.

Vehicle 1 was traveling west on US 87 while Vehicle 2 was traveling east on US 87. For unknown reasons, the driver of Vehicle 1 veered into the eastbound lane of travel in the path of Vehicle 2. The driver of Vehicle 2 attempted to avoid the collision by steering the vehicle to the left. The driver of Vehicle 1 attempted to avoid the collision by steering the vehicle back into the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of vehicle 1, Maurice Jefferson, 33, of Dumas died on the scene and was pronounced deceased on scene by Harley County Judge, Ronnie Gordon. The two deceased minor children were passengers of vehicle 1. An adult passenger of vehicle 1 is from Dumas was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of vehicle 2 was a 59-year-old Clayton, New Mexico resident who was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries. Diana Segura, the passenger of vehicle 2, died on the scene and was pronounced deceased on scene by Harley County Judge, Ronnie Gordon.
