2021 Dumas High Graduation

Graduation ceremonies were back to normal in Moore County this year after COVID restrictions have been lifted. The Dumas High School class of 2021 ceremony was held at Dumas Demon Stadium on Friday night. Class valedictorian Doe Na gave an emotional speech to the class describing her family’s immigration to America as they fled persecution in Burma when she was 7 years old. “For me, being the valedictorian of our class has been an honor to both me and to my family… the illiterate 7 year old me would have never thought I could have achieved something like this. When my family and I first arrived in the United States no one was able to speak, read, or write a word in English. The unfamiliar environment that was America was like a beast looming it’s presence over me. Waiting for the most opportune moment to strike and swallow me whole… There were many moments in my life where I felt that life was unfair. As if escaping from persecution wasn’t enough, I was faced with many challenges where I wanted to give up.” You can watch the Dumas High graduation ceremony, including Doe Na’s full speech, at
