TRACK
CANYON, TX – The Dumas boys track team finished second, and the Demonettes placed fourth last weekend at the 5th West Texas A&M High School Classic at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex.
The Demons finished behind Amarillo (188) with 166 points, followed by Amarillo Tascosa (120.5), Bushland (87.5), and Amarillo Caprock.
Senior Hunter Coaly tied for first in the 100-meter race with a time of 11.40, while juniors Oliver Ortiz and Emmanuel Ibanez took the top two spots in the 400-meter race with times of 49.48 and 50.71, respectively.
Senior Juan Romero won the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the 110-meter hurdles. Junior Matthew Reynaga finished third in both hurdle events.
Dumas 4×400 relay team consisting of Oliver Ortiz, Emmanuel Ibanez, Juan Romero, and Brayden Boggs-Rushing placed first with a time of 3:23.05.
Ibanez also won the long jump event with a leap of 20-08.25, and teammate Edward Arya came in third place.
Senior Karina Puentes jumped 16-09.00 to take home the top prize in the girl’s long jump, while the Demonettes 4×200 relay team of Puentes, Rylee Schacher, Michelle Loya, and Natalie Vera also captured first place.
Freshman Michelle Loya placed second in the 200-meter race while junior Sarai Chavez finished third in the 800-meter run, and sophomore Mia Lujan came in third place in the 3200-meter event.

BASEBALL
DUMAS, TX – Raul Bustamante threw seven scoreless innings to lead the Dumas Demons to a 2-0 victory over the Borger Bulldogs Tuesday in a District 4-4A encounter at Demon Field.
Bustamante (3-1) tallied 15 strikeouts while limiting the Bulldogs to a hit and a walk in a dominant complete-game victory.
Dumas broke a scoreless deadlock in the second to grab an early lead. Zach Thompson reached on a leadoff single and crossed the plate on Cade Torrez’s run-scoring base hit up the middle.
The Demons plated an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly from Jesus Rodriguez to seal the win.
Thompson collected two of the Demons’ four hits, while Torrez and Armando Cardenas posted a hit apiece.
Dumas (8-11, 3-1) will travel to Pampa on Friday to battle the Harvesters (10-7, 3-1) in a key district clash with sole possession of second place at stake.
CANYON 15, DUMAS 5
The Canyon Eagles crossed the plate six times in the first inning and cruised to an easy win over the Demons last Friday at Canyon High School.
Armando Cardenas homered and collected two RBIs, while Raul Bustamante and Jesus Rodriguez tallied two hits apiece.
Jacob Saenz scored two runs and reached base twice on a double and a walk, and Trent Aikman drove in a score with a base hit.
SOFTBALL
DUMAS, TX – The Borger Lady Bulldogs scored early and often Tuesday en route to a lopsided 20-8 victory over the Dumas Demonettes in a District 4-4A matchup at the Inferno Field.
Dumas (20-9), Borger (9-7), and Hereford (10-15-1) are knotted in a three-way tie for third place with identical 2-3 records in district play.
The Lady Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the opening frame and added five more scores in the third to deal the Demonettes their second straight district loss.
The Demonettes will be on the road Friday against the second-place Pampa Lady Harvesters (19-5-1, 4-1).
CANYON 15, DUMAS 5
The Canyon Lady Eagles continued their winning ways on the road Friday with a 15-5 victory over the Demonettes.
Berkley Bradley and Kenah Cox both hit long balls to pace the visitors and finished with three hits apiece.
Junior utility player Briana Vargas sparked the Demonettes’ offense with a grand slam home run.
TENNIS
AMARILLO, TX – The Dumas boys and girl’s doubles tennis duos are headed to the Region I-4A Tennis Tournament on April 13-14 at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
The girl’s doubles tandem of Karitza Bencommo and Christi Medrano fell short in the championship match in a third-set tiebreaker at the District 4-4A Tournament at Bowie Middle School.
Bencommo and Medrano finished second with a playback win over Borger to advance to the regional tournament.
The boy’s doubles team of Eh Kuh Soe and Frances Kaing also placed second at the district tourney and qualified for the regional competition.
GOLF
DUMAS, TX – The Dumas girls golf team is headed to regionals after finishing second at the District 4-4A championships at the Pheasant Trails Golf Course in Dumas.
The Region I-4A Tournament is set for April 21-22 at the Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.
The Demonettes’ golf team consists of Jillian Shockey, Lauren Skipworth, Brooke Brown, Jacey Armstrong, and Kylee Parks.
