POWERLIFTING

FRIONA, TX – The Dumas Demonettes took home top honors at the Friona Powerlifting Championships Saturday at Friona High School. Dumas finished with 53 points to earn first place ahead of Dimmitt (46) and Friona (34).

Five Demonettes won their respective weight classes. Mia Reynaga tallied 535 lbs. to win the 105-pound division, and Andrea Bedoy posted 600 lbs. to outclass the 114-pound powerlifters.

Vanessa Martinez topped the 123-pound division with 685 lbs., while Emily Pelayo and Ana Rivera lifted 770 lbs. and 735 lbs., respectively, to win their weight classes.

A trio of Dumas powerlifters – Denisia Garcia, Aliah Jenkins, and Hayley Vecchio – placed second. Garcia tallied 675 lbs., Jenkins posted 700 lbs., and Vecchio finished with 820 lbs.

Four Demonettes came in third place in their weight classes. Jocelyn Ovalle lifted 465 lbs. while Libby Weatherford totaled 665 lbs.

Xiada Mendoza posted 725 lbs., and Hayvan Flores tallied 740 lbs. to help Dumas win the competition.

SOFTBALL

AMARILLO, TX – The Dumas Demonettes started strong and notched four victories in six games at the Caprock Classic Tournament this past weekend at Caprock High School.

The Demonettes opened the tourney with a 10-8 victory over Lubbock Estacado before reeling off three lopsided wins by a combined score of 73 to 10.
