SOCCER

CANYON, TX – The Dumas Demons defeated the Canyon Eagles 2-0 Tuesday night in a District 2-4A matchup at Happy State Bank Stadium. With the win, the Demons improved its season record to 7-12-4 and 3-4-1 in district play.

Noe Estrada and Felix Ibarra both tallied a goal and an assist to help Demons top the Eagles for the third time this season. Dumas’s goalie Cross Gorda finished with a clean sheet to notch the shutout win.

The Demons, which picked up a 7-6 victory over the Borger Bulldogs on penalty kicks last Friday at Demon Stadium, will go on the road Saturday for a clash with unbeaten district frontrunner Pampa (8-0) at 2 p.m.

Canyon 9, Demonettes 3

DUMAS, TX – The Canyon Lady Eagles scored early and often to deal the Dumas Demonettes a lopsided loss Tuesday afternoon at Demon Stadium.

Canyon (13-8-1, 8-0) opened the scoring in rapid-fire action to take an early lead after just 76 seconds of action. However, the Demonettes knotted the score two minutes later on a beautiful header from junior Yessenia Gonzalez.

The Lady Eagles, which posted a 3-2 win over the Demonettes in the last meeting on Feb. 25, reeled off six consecutive goals before junior Arisbeth Loya broke free between two defenders and blasted a shot into the left corner of the net to make the score 6-2.

Dumas (4-10-3, 2-3-3) made things interesting when junior Yassmin Marchan found the back of the net to cut the lead to 6-3 with 30 minutes left on the clock. But the Lady Eagles tallied three unanswered goals to claim the win and remain unbeaten in district action.

The Demonettes will end the regular season on the road Saturday at 12 p.m. against the Pampa Lady Harvesters (8-10-3, 2-3-3).

SOFTBALL

PLAINVIEW, TX – The Dumas Demonettes suffered a 12-9 non-district road loss to the Plainview Lady Bulldogs Tuesday. Junior corner infielder Melaney Granados, who smacked a grand slam, has gone deep eight times in 21 games.

Dumas (15-6) posted a 5-1 record this past weekend at the Seminole Tournament. The Demonettes opened the tourney last Thursday with a 15-2 victory against Slaton and then knocked off Alpine, 7u-6, in a nail-biter.

A 10-2 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles on Friday helped Dumas finish the second day of the tourney with a 1-1 record.

Dumas picked up a 15-7 victory Saturday over 17th-ranked Seminole before claiming an 8-6 win against Brownfield in the tournament finale.

The Demonettes will host 11th-ranked Class 5A Lubbock High Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dumas High School.

BASEBALL

LEVELLAND, TX – The Dumas Demons baseball team struggled offensively at the Levelland Tournament last week at Levelland High School.

The Demons (2-7) were outscored 24 to 1 Thursday in losses to the Pecos Eagles (11-0) and the Shallowater Mustangs (13-1).

Dumas suffered its second shutout of the tourney Friday with an 8-0 setback against the Midland Christian Mustangs, and finished the two-day tournament with a 12-3 loss to the Lubbock Estacado Matadors.

First-year head coach Tyler Lloyd’s squad is led by seniors Raule Bustamante (1st Team All-District), Armando Cardenas (1st Team All-District), Brayden Boggs-Rushing (2nd Team All-District), and Aiden Gutierrez (H.M. All-District).
