A child was able to escape what Dumas police reported as an attempted abduction Thursday. According to a police report, the child was leaving the playground at Green Acres Elementary School when an older Hispanic female pulled up in a red four-door car, told the child she was his mother and wanted him to go with her.

The child ran to a relative’s home nearby and called police. Officer searched the area and spoke with several people in the area who said they didn’t see anything. The woman was driving a Honda Civic, a Pontiac Grand Am or a similar vehicle.

Police didn’t locate a vehicle matching that description.
