A southbound 2003 Freightliner truck tractor crashed on US 87 approximately 4 miles south of Dumas on Saturday afternoon leaving a passenger of the truck deceased.
According to Texas DPS, the truck was traveling southbound and was attempting to pass another truck when it went off the roadway and struck a guard rail. After over-correcting, the truck traveled across the roadway and struck the guardrail on the right side of the road.
The truck then traveled back across the highway, struck the guardrail on the left side of the road, and went over the guardrail into a ravine. The towed semi-trailer was separated from the truck during the crash, rolled over, and came to rest in the left-hand lane.
The driver and passenger of the semi-truck were transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, Ennie Eisenhauer, 39, of Bryan, Texas later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Texas DPS report noted that neither the driver nor passenger was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas DPS.
