The Moore County Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association recently announced the recipients of this year’s scholarships to graduating seniors from Moore County.
Seven scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each have been awarded to six 2020 Dumas High School graduates and one 2018 DHS graduate that will be transferring from South Plains College to Texas Tech this fall. The local Texas Tech alums are proud to be able to honor these students who have been forced to complete their high school careers under very different circumstances than they could have ever envisioned.
From the Dumas High class of 2020, scholarships in the amount of $1,500 have been awarded to Claire Thompson, Francine Hernandez, Vayja Pizarro, Devan Running, Berkli Thompson, and Madilyn Fox. From the DHS class of 2018, Branton Hatley, a transfer from South Plains College, will also receive a $1,500 scholarship. All of these students have received these scholarships based upon their performance not only in the classroom, but also in many extra-curricular activities including sports, music, academic competitions, and service organizations. Texas Tech continues to attract the best of the best, and the Moore County alumni are especially proud to help these students get their start at Tech.
Texas Tech continues to grow its reputation as one of the top universities, not only in Texas, but also in the nation and even the world. Tech is now recognized as a Tier One research university by the Carnegie Foundation. Tech has been ranked in a recent survey of corporate recruiters as ninth nationally and first in the state of Texas for the most sought-after graduates. The Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine is now under construction in Amarillo. And just for good measure, the first African-American named as service chief in the United States military, General Charles Q. Brown, the Chief of Staff for the United States Air Force, is a Red Raider! It’s a good time to be a Red Raider, and the Moore County Tech Alumni are happy to help these new Red Raiders.
