“Coach Hernandez exemplifies what it means to be a Dumas Demon,” said Dunnam on Twitter. “He is a team guy that never backs down from a challenge and has busted his tail as an assistant coach waiting for his opportunity.”

Hernandez began his career as a Dumas Junior High assistant ten years ago and has worked his way through the system enroute to becoming the Demons defensive coordinator.

“Extremely grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to this incredible program and this amazing community,” Hernandez wrote on social media. “Thank you, Coach Dunnam, for your continued belief in me. Words can’t express the emotions I am feeling tonight.”

Dumas will open the 2022 non-district schedule at Demon Stadium on Aug. 27 against the Lubbock Cooper Pirates.
