The Dumas cross country team turned in another solid performance last weekend at the Canyon Invitational. The boy’s squad finished in fourth place with 102 points, while the girl’s team captured sixth place with 187 points.


Freshman Yandel Talavera and sophomore Noah Williams paced the Demons. Talavera finished ninth in the Three Mile Run with a time of 16:38.20, and Williams earned 10th-place with a time of 16:42.53.

Senior Xavier Soto turned in a time of 17:42.87 and was followed by Cade Torrez (17:44.00), David Valdez (18:06.24), Jovanni Sotto (18:17.89), Kevin Bonilla (18:51.67), and Brian Corona (20:35.50).

The Demonettes were led by junior Sarai Chavez, who posted an impressive time of 12:44.13 in the 3200-meter event to finish in ninth-place.

Junior Rocio Mendoza completed the race in 13:40.43 and teammates Mia Lujan (14:02.84), Berkley Funderburg (14:35.82), Paradise Fuentes (15:18.25), and Pyo Tha Zin Cho (17:28.54) also fared well for the girls’ team.

The cross country team will be competing at the West Texas A&M University Meet on Saturday.
