AMARILLO, TX – The Dumas Demons’ historic season ended Tuesday with a lopsided 70-41 setback to the Hereford Whitefaces in a Class 4A Regional Quarterfinals matchup at Tascosa High School.

Dumas, which captured its first playoff wins in 51 years last week, ended the season with a 26-7 record.

Hereford (19-14) opened the game with a 5-0 run before the Demons hit back-to-back buckets to make it a one-point affair. But the Whitefaces drilled a trio of three-pointers to grab a 17-11 lead after eight minutes of play.

Junior Matthew Reynaga – who finished with seven points – started the second quarter with a basket to cut the lead to four points, and a put-back from sophomore Dominic Gardipe made the score 20-15. However, Hereford ended the half with a 16-4 run to take a commanding 36-19 advantage into the locker room.

Senior Johnny Reynaga scored five points to open the third quarter, but Dumas shot just 1-for-7 from behind the arc and committed four turnovers as the Whitefaces outscored the Demons 16-9 to hold a 52-28 lead en route to the quarterfinal victory.

Junior center Evan Hernandez tallied a team-high nine points and six rebounds, while senior co-captain Cristian Kelso had eight points and a pair of assists.

Gardipe posted six points and two boards, and senior co-captain Johnny Reynaga added five points, four rebounds, and five assists.
