DUMAS, TX – Junior Arisbeth Loya split two defenders and notched the go-ahead goal with less than four minutes to play to lift the Dumas Demonettes past the Borger Lady Bulldogs, 2-1, Tuesday in a District 4-4A matchup at Demon Stadium.

With the win, the Demonettes take sole possession of second-place with five games remaining in the regular season.

Dumas dominated the first period with an array of shots on goal. The Demonettes missed a golden opportunity at the 38:07 mark when an errant shot hit the side of the net, and five minutes later a corner kick was almost booted into the goal.

Although the Demonettes consistently peppered the Borger goalie with shots, it was the Lady Bulldogs who broke the scoreless deadlock with 10 minutes left in the opening period.

Dumas finally broke through in the second period when Lesly Chavez scored on a nifty pass from Tori Harris to knot the score at 1-all.

The score remained unchanged and the two teams, which battled to a 3-3 draw in their first meeting, seemed destined for another tie. However, Loya would have none of that.

The junior took the ball at the 15-yard line, went right before going between two defenders, and blasted a shot past the goalie for the winning score.

The Demonettes will travel to Happy State Bank Stadium Friday for a district clash with the first-place Canyon Lady Eagles.
