Three people escaped injuries in a wreck Monday that involved a semitrailer and a pickup in Cactus.

Cactus Police Officer Bron Bohlar said the pickup’s driver was trying to get traction as he was pulling out of Sunset Street onto U.S. Highway 287 at about 7 a.m. When the pickup’s tires caught the pavement, it propelled him onto the highway and in the path of the semitrailer owned by Dee King Trucking. The semitrailer was hauling cattle, and Bohlar said two of them died in the accident. Area cowboys rounded up other cattle that had gotten loose.

Bohlar advises drivers to use caution because many of the intersections are still iced over.
